A story steeped in craftsmanship, mythology, and mindful brewing.

The Moonhare Edition of our 39 Arita Cera Filter Set features an award-winning ceramic filter and a beautifully designed holder—both handcrafted in Arita, Japan, a town with over 400 years of porcelain-making tradition.

Inspired by the Japanese folktale of the moon rabbit (Tsuki no Usagi), this set reimagines the myth through elegant design: in the classic tale, the rabbit pounds mochi on the moon to help a kind elder. Here, the moonhare prepares not mochi, but your daily cup of coffee—infused with warmth, heritage, and care.

✦ Pattern & Symbolism:

  • The Moon: Decorated with the iconic Seigaiha (blue ocean wave) pattern—believed to have originated in ancient Persia and carried to Japan via the Silk Road—this motif symbolizes peace and enduring harmony.
  • The Hare: Embellished with Hanabishi Kikkō (floral-diamond hexagon), a traditional pattern combining the auspicious turtle shell (longevity) with the refined elegance of floral crests (vitality and prosperity).

✦ What’s Included:

  • 1 × Arita Ceramic Cera Filter
  • 1 × Arita Ceramic Holder (Moonhare Design)

Both items are presented in a box, making this set a memorable gift for coffee lovers and design enthusiasts alike.

✦ Specifications:

  • Filter: 110 × 110 × 60 mm / 140g
  • Holder: 125 × 125 × 10 mm / 106g
  • Box: 88 × 134 × 140 mm

✦ Brewing Experience:

No need for paper or cloth filters. This eco-friendly ceramic filter is made from microporous ceramic with millions of tiny holes that naturally remove impurities and unwanted flavors from water—resulting in a smooth, clean, and mellow brew.

The far-infrared effect of the ceramic enhances flavor while preserving the natural oils of the coffee beans—an experience paper filters cannot offer.

✦ Usage Instructions:

  1. Place the Moonhare ceramic holder over your cup (pre-warming the cup enhances flavor).
  2. Set the ceramic filter on the holder and check for a stable angle.
  3. Use medium or coarse ground coffee (about 15g for one cup).
  4. Bloom the grounds with a small amount of hot water for 20 seconds.
  5. Slowly pour the remaining water in 5–6 stages to control extraction speed.

✦ Care & Notes:

  • Handle with care — made from delicate ceramic.
  • Do not use the same filter for different types of drinks (e.g., coffee, tea), as it may retain flavors and affect the taste.
  • Thoroughly clean the filter after each use. (see below)

Maintenance Instructions

Daily Maintenance (After Use)

After each use, rinse the filter under running water using a soft brush (such as a toothbrush) to remove coffee grounds and surface oils. Then pour boiling water through the filter until the water runs clear. Let it air dry completely before storing.

⚠️ Do not use detergent.

Special Maintenance (When Flow Rate Slows)

Over time, coffee oils, fine grounds, or tea particles can build up and clog the microscopic holes in the ceramic. Regular deep cleaning is recommended to keep your Cera Filter in top condition.

Boiling Method (IH or Gas Stove):

  • Place the filter in a pot of boiling water with 2 spoonfuls of edible baking soda.
  • Boil for 10–20 minutes to remove built-up oils and residue.

Oven or Toaster Method:

  • Place the filter in the oven and heat until it stops smoking.
  • Allow the filter to cool completely before rinsing with hot or cold water.

⚠️ Please handle with care during cleaning, as the filter and water can become very hot.
